THE HAPPYNECKS CONCEPT BREAKDOWN
TURNING CHALLENGES INTO SOLUTIONS
The idea for Happynecks® began when Jerry, a Dutch physiotherapist, noticed frequent neck and shoulder issues among dentists and their patients. Driven to improve dental ergonomics, he developed solutions prioritizing comfort for both groups.
Expanding his research, Jerry addressed broader ergonomic needs, including lumbar and knee support for conditions like kyphosis and lordosis. Most notably, he created the Child Booster Seat to ensure comfort and proper positioning for children of all ages during dental treatments.

DENTAL CHAIRS
Whether you're a dentist or a patient, we've all experienced time in a dental chair, and let's face it, it can be uncomfortable, especially during lengthy treatments. And when it comes to children, the struggle is even greater: they slide down and can never quite reach the headrest. Most dental chairs simply aren't ergonomic, but Happynecks offers an affordable solution to improve comfort for everyone in your practice.
WHY IS ERGONOMICS IMPORTANT IN DENSTISTRY?
Ergonomics is the science of designing workplaces, products, and systems to suit people, aiming to enhance health, safety, and comfort by considering their physical and cognitive needs. In dentistry, both practitioners and patients spend extended periods in static positions, often resulting in musculoskeletal issues.
Good ergonomics can help by:
Reducing Neck and Shoulder Complaints
Providing proper support to alleviate tension.
Improving Work Posture
Allowing dentists to work more efficiently and comfortably.
Increasing Patient Comfort
Ensuring patients can undergo treatments relaxed and free of discomfort.
PRACTITIONER ERGONOMICS GUIDELINES
To achieve a healthy working posture, operators should follow these ergonomic principles:
Active Sitting: Engage core muscles for stability.
Spinal Curvature: Maintain slight arches in the neck and back.
Leg Position: Keep an angle of 110° to 125° between upper and lower legs.
Head Flexion: Limit to no more than 25° to reduce neck strain.
Arm Angle: Keep a maximum angle of 15° between upper body and arms.
The Happynecks cushions conform to the cervical spine's natural shape, promoting neck extension. This allows patients to open their mouths wider, improving visibility for the dentist. By optimizing head position, these cushions enhance both operator posture and comfort during dental procedures.
